Bubba’s new habit is to burrow under his heat pad and use it like a blanket. It’s also adorable that he uses the pillows in bed like he’s a human.
I took Bubba to the vet today for his annual checkup and an intervention about his weight problem. He lost two ounces this year, so I’m going to round down now and say he is a very sleek 25 pounds.
The vet says that Bubba likes being fat and given his agression issues surrounding food, his weight is a problem that is probably not fixable. I have some new prescription food for Bubba to eat that I’m sure he will hate. The vet suggested cat Prozac, but I declined. Bubba doesn’t like pills, so I just would have been cleaning vomit up and it would have made him more upset. Overall, the vet said I was a good person for trying, but he’s not holding out much hope for results.
Other than his weight, the vet gave Bubba a clean bill of health.
Bubba has six months until his next visit by which he needs to lose 8 ounces. All I want is to reduce his health risks as he gets older. Wish us luck!
Also, if you live in Chicago and you are not going to the North Avenue Animal Hospital, you should be. The entire staff is amazing.

I recently hurt my back and Bubba has been working (rather reluctantly) as my nurse. Here’s an action shot of him watching over me from under the covers in bed. He’s claimed an entire heat pad just to keep his chin and front paw warm, since his nursing duties require that he keep one eye on me at all times.
